Matthew was a tax collector, and the Jews hated tax collectors because they were under the

greed. They often cheated the people by collecting more tax than was due, and plus Matthew was a Jew

helping the Romans, and so you can imagine that the fellow Jews saw him as a traitor. But Matthew

encountered Jesus, the god of the universe, and to his credit, he dropped everything and immediately

followed Jesus and became a very

generous man, sharing the good news of the gospel to the ends of the earth until he was martyred,
