Summary

This week we are continuing our 40 days with the Martyr's Lenten Series! Join us in saying this prayer each day:

ST PETER'S CHAINS PRAYER:

O God, Who caused St. Peter, the apostle, to depart, loosed from his chains and unhurt,

loose, we beg You, the chains of our sins,

and graciously keep all evils far from us.

Bless us this Lent and give us the faith of the martyrs.

We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.

0:38.1	We have talked about a lot of Pauls this week. Yesterday we talked about Perpetua and Felicity.
0:44.0	In the next two days, we are going to be talking about martyrs named Peter.
0:49.2	We're starting with the original Peter, St. Peter, the Apostle, today.
0:56.3	But before we talk about his story, please join me in our Lenton prayer, St. Peter's Chains.
1:01.9	In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, amen.
1:09.9	O God, who caused St. Peter the Apostle to depart, loosed from his chains and unhurt.
1:17.4	Loose, we beg you the chains of our sins and graciously keep all evils far from us.
1:22.1	Bless us this lent and give us the faith of the martyrs.
1:25.6	We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
1:26.5	Amen.
1:32.5	So St. Peter the Apostle. St. Peter, you likely know some of his story, but he is one of the 12 men called by Jesus Christ to follow him.
1:41.1	St. Peter was actually brought to Jesus by his brother, Andrew. They were fishermen together,
1:47.9	and very soon Peter became one of an inner circle of apostles that were there for really special
1:56.8	moments. He was there when Jesus was transfigured on the Mount. He was there when Jesus raised a small
2:05.8	girl from the dead, the daughter of Jirish, the synagogue official. And so he was brought into these
2:13.6	special moments, and it was clear that Jesus was forming Peter for special work.
2:20.7	Now, we know that Peter was not perfect. At one point, the apostles are in a boat, and they see
2:26.9	Jesus walking to them on the water. They think that this is a ghost. But when Peter recognizes it as Jesus, he asks Jesus to call to him, to allow him to walk on the waves. And we know that Peter was able to do that for a moment until he looked away from Jesus and doubted.
