Summary

This week we are continuing our 40 days with the Martyr's Lenten Series! Join us in saying this prayer each day:

ST PETER'S CHAINS PRAYER:

O God, Who caused St. Peter, the apostle, to depart, loosed from his chains and unhurt,

loose, we beg You, the chains of our sins,

and graciously keep all evils far from us.

Bless us this Lent and give us the faith of the martyrs.

We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.

0:31.8	Hey there, sproutsouts. Today is Thursday, March 21st, 2024. We are in Lent talking about martyrs.
0:43.5	Today we are traveling to Northern Africa in the 200s to meet two very incredible women, saints, perpetual and Felicity, incredible martyrs for the faith, mothers, wives, and powerful examples for us.
0:51.3	Join me first, though, in praying our Lenton prayer, St. Peter's Chains. In the name of the
0:58.6	Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, amen. O God, who caused St. Peter the Apostle to depart,
1:09.2	loosed from his chains and unhurt. Loose, we beg you the chains of our sins,
1:15.9	and graciously keep all evils far from us. Bless us this lent and give us the faith of the martyrs.
1:24.8	We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen. So saints,
1:31.7	Perpetua and Felicity. So they both lived in northern Africa in the 200s. Now, that might seem a
1:39.0	little strange, but if you can picture where Italy is, it's not far from Africa. And the northern part of Africa
1:46.6	had been conquered and brought into the Roman Empire. But still, Perpetua and Felicity were very
1:54.0	different people. Perpetia was part of the Roman nobility that had traveled to Northern Africa to impose the Roman way of life.
2:04.4	And Felicity was a slave. She was African. And although she was a slave, she actually had a close
2:13.3	friendship with Perpetua. Both women were married. Perpetua had a small child, and Felicity was
2:19.7	expecting her first child. So around this time, they encountered the Christian faith. At this time,
2:27.4	the Christians in the Roman Empire were suffering terrible persecution. It came in waves, but still at this time they encountered Jesus and they
2:37.2	were in the process of being formed. They were catechumans. However, they were discovered and a new
2:45.1	wave of persecution broke out and both women were placed in prison.
2:55.7	In prison, they continued to learn about the faith, and they actually received the sacrament of baptism.
2:58.2	Now, as I said, Perpetua had a little baby, so she was able to bring that child with her
