My name is Sir Roland Paterlot, and you're listening to Saturdays with Sir Rowland on Catholic

Sprouts where every Saturday we discuss the art of dragon slain.

Today is the feast of St. Fabian and St. Sebastian.

Both of them were early Christian martyrs. St. Fabian was the first layperson to be elected pope,

and he was eventually martyred by the Emperor Dysius. St. Sebastian is well known as the patron saint of

athletes. He was a soldier who was convicted of being a Christian, and then they tried to

kill him by shooting arrows at him, but he miraculously survived, so he's also the patron saint of

archers. He rebuked the emperor Diocletian for his cruelty to the Christians, but then he was

eventually martyred by Diocletian. On the feast of St. Sebastian, who is also the patron of archers,

as I mentioned, I'd like to be

reminded of a friend of mine named Colin in his incredible true story, and I'm going to share that

story with you today. Several years back on the Feast of St. John Paul II, on a beautiful sunny Sunday

afternoon, Colin was playing in his backyard with his dog, his wife, and their little boy who was just a toddler at the time.

Their neighbor was a young teenage boy who was practicing archery in the backyard, and he wasn't taking the proper safety precautions.

One of the arrows he shot ricocheted off a nail in the deck and redirected over the fence and actually pierced my friend Colin through

both legs, heading major arteries in both of his legs. Well, the boy came over and saw what he had done,
