  • Friday: Finally, art is a way to testify to a truth that words fail to express.

Hey there, Sprouse. Today is Thursday, October 26th, 2003. Today is also the feast day of an early Christian martyr named Lucian, Lucian of Necumedia, which is a part of Turkey. So he has an interesting martyrdom story because at the

beginning of his life, he was not Christian. In fact, he made his living as a sorcerer and

worshipped evil spirits. So he was not a good guy. One day, as the story goes, he cast a spell on a Christian

woman, but she easily fended off this evil by making the sign of the cross. Now Lucian was

so surprised that he dove into a deep study of the Christian faith and he converted. As often happens with converts, he spent the

rest of his life studying and preaching this true faith. He brought others to Christianity

out of paganism, and in the year 250, he died a martyr for the faith.

Lucian is a great example that no matter what sins or lifestyle we might have been living,

there is a path to sainthood for all of us.

Now, this week we have been talking about the Eighth Commandment.
