Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Monday, January 16th, 2020. This week on the Catholic Spouts podcast, we are going to talk about miracles. It's going to be a fun week. But before we get

0:36.8

there, let's work on practicing

0:38.6

and memorizing Deuteronomy chapter 6 versus Thor through 9. In the name of the Father and the Son

0:45.4

and the Holy Spirit, amen. Hear, O Israel, the Lord is your God. The Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul,

0:57.8

and with all your strength. These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart,

1:04.7

and you shall repeat them diligently to your sons, and speak of them when you sit in your house,

1:10.7

when you walk on the road,

1:12.8

and when you lie down, and when you get up. Amen. So let's talk about miracles. Now, first of all,

1:48.2

that we absolutely cannot find the cause for, whether it's in the natural world or through

1:55.3

the use of science and reason, but we simply cannot explain it in any other way.

2:02.4

So that is a miracle.

2:05.2

Now, miracles have been part of Christianity since the very beginning.

2:09.6

We see tremendous amounts of miracles in the gospel accounts.

2:16.1

Among the miracles that Jesus performed, he healed the sick, he restored

2:23.4

sight to those that were blind, hearing to those who were deaf, he healed those who were

2:29.9

paralyzed. In two dramatic, actually three dramatic moments in the gospel, he brought people back

2:37.2

to life. He performed resurrections, most memorably of his friend Lazarus and of Gyrus's

2:46.1

daughter. They were dead and they were brought back to life. Jesus also performed exorcisms, or people who were possessed by evil demons, had those demons cast out and were saved.

2:58.8

He cleansed lepers.

3:00.7

He also performed miracles over the natural world.
