| 0:00.0 | You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast St. Chures gives us to pray the rosary this month. As part of that, we will be |
| 0:39.7 | praying the Hail Holy Queen prayer at the conclusion. So let's all join and pray that together. |
| 0:46.6 | In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen. |
| 0:50.9 | Hail Holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To thee, do we cry, |
| 0:57.4 | poor banished children of Eve. To thee, do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this veil of tears? |
| 1:04.4 | Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy, towards us, and after this our exile, |
| 1:13.7 | show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, oh sweet Virgin Mary, pray for us, O holy mother of God, |
| 1:21.9 | that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Amen. So yesterday we talked about the Hail Holy Queen Prayer, |
| 1:29.8 | which we say at the end of the rosary. Today let's just talk a little bit about the history of the |
| 1:35.1 | rosary and why it plays such an important role in the life of the faithful today. So the rosary |
| 1:41.6 | was developed about a thousand years ago, a little bit less than that. And the person, |
| 1:47.7 | well, we have two people to thank for the rosary. One of course is Mary. The other is St. Dominic. |
| 1:53.2 | As the story goes, in the 1100s, Mary appeared to St. Dominic, who was a Spanish monk, and gave to him the rosary. Now, at this time, |
| 2:05.6 | many people were illiterate. They were unable to read the Bible, and yet they were encouraged to pray |
| 2:11.8 | and to meditate upon the stories of the lives of Mary and Jesus. And so, Mary gave the rosary to Dominic as a way for people to slow down, to say these prayers |
| 2:24.4 | that the church had already established, well meditating on the lives of Mary and Jesus. |
| 2:32.2 | And so the rosaries were preached and spread by the Dominican order throughout the world. |
| 2:39.0 | The Dominicans were known as preachers. |
| 2:41.7 | And the rosary, having been something specially made by Mary, caught on and have served us so well. |
| 2:49.9 | Now, during the time of St. Dominic, it was during the time of knights and crusades. |
| 2:55.9 | And so very often, people would carry swords. |
| 2:59.6 | They would be in their belts and hang down their leg at their side. |
