Hey there, Spouts. Today is Friday, September 9th, 2020. Today is also the feast day of St. Peter Claver. St. Peter Claver was a Spanish Jesuit priest who was a missionary to Columbia. He thought he would arrive in Columbia and be ministering to the indigenous people there. But when he arrived, he was confronted

with the horrible reality of slavery, which was in full swing during his lifetime. Huge boats from

Africa would land on the coast of Columbia,

and he dedicated his life to serving those that had been kidnapped and sold into slavery.

Often many of them arriving very sick, very confused, very sad, families ripped apart and all sorts of horrible things.

But he gave his life ministering to them. He defended them. He converted them. He would go and

visit them on the plantations after they were sold. He was not a political leader, but he offered

endless, bottomless love for the poorest of the poor, the slaves in Colombia, taken from Africa.
