Today is the memorial of St. Monica. Last week on the podcast, we talked about the Fourth Commandment,

that we should honor our father and mother, and St. Monica is a great example of how much

influence a parent can have. St. Monica was St. Augustine's mother, and Augustine is one of the doctors of the church and has had a

tremendous influence on Catholic theology over the centuries. But Augustine was a wayward son for many

tears of his dear mother, St. Monica, fervently praying for her son's conversion, so moms and

dads out there never forget how powerful your prayers for your children can be. Today, we move on to

the Fifth Commandment, which simply states, thou shalt not kill. Sadly, for many people, it gets used as

the gold standard for being a good person. Like, if you ask them why they should go to heaven or why they're a good person, they'll people, it gets used as the gold standard for being a good person.
