Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Monday, August 29th, 2020.

Today is also the feast day of St. John the Baptist.

Now, this week on the Catholic Sprouts podcast,

we are going to spend three days preparing for September when

our Be a Saint Kids Club begins. And so let's spend these three days asking a really important

question, a question that Jesus was asked and that he made sure to answer clearly. And this

question is, how do we get to heaven? How do we become saints?

Now, this feels like a really complicated question. And there are a lot of people that have spoken a lot

about this. But Jesus also spoke about this. And he made clear that to get to heaven, we need to do three things. We need to

repent. We need to have faith. And number three, we need to receive grace through the sacraments.

So we're going to explain all of these things. But today we're going to start with

this first piece on what Jesus made clear is an essential part of getting to heaven, and that is

repentance. Now, sometimes on the Catholic Sprouts podcast, things just line up so perfectly,

and today is one of those days because today is the feast of the passion of St. John the Baptist when we're talking about repentance.

So if you remember, St. John the Baptist was a cousin of Jesus.

He came before Jesus as the last and the greatest prophet to prepare people to receive Jesus.

And he did this by preaching about repentance

and by offering people baptism. Now, the baptism that John the Baptist offered before Christ

was baptized was different. This was a symbolic baptism that symbolized repentance. It was in one way saying,

you come to the Jordan River one person, a sinner, selfish, full of pride, someone that just falls

and hasn't given themselves to God. But then you come to the water, you go underneath the water and come back up a different
