Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Sprouts. Today is Monday, June 6th, 2022. Now, since it is the beginning of June, and many of you are out of school for the summer, we are going to be celebrating the patron saints of summer all week long.

0:46.9

And by that I mean, we are going to be talking about the patron saints of some of our favorite summer activities, things like going to the beach, traveling, grilling, and even ice cream. It's going to be a really fun week,

0:57.3

and I bet that you are going to hear about some saints that you did not know about before.

1:02.3

And so today we have two French saints, the patron saint of beaches, and also the patron saint of good weather. So the first of these French saints,

1:15.2

patron saints of summer, is the patron saint of good weather. This is Saint Madarius. St. Medarius

1:22.3

was French and he lived in the late 400s, early 500th, so long time ago. And in fact, he lived in the late 400s, early 500th, so long time ago.

1:30.3

And in fact, he lived right at the time when the Roman Empire was falling apart.

1:37.4

So as you remember, of course, the Roman Empire controlled most of the world when Jesus was alive, including Judea, where Jesus lived.

1:46.2

They included all parts of Europe, including what's now France and Germany.

1:51.7

And when the Roman Empire fell apart in the late 400th, it had a big impact on the entire world.

1:59.6

People were trying to take over control. There were roving armies of

2:04.2

barbarians that were killing and pillaging. It was a really wild and dangerous time.

2:11.4

Now, during that time, we had many saints made in our church because they worked hard to continue to spread the church and to bring

2:19.6

stability to the church. And St. Medearius was one of those people. He was ordained a priest.

2:26.0

He became a bishop. He led many people, even though he would have preferred to be a monk.

2:32.5

Now, one of the legends about St. Medearius's life is that when he was traveling to all these

2:38.4

various places, because he was a bishop not only of one diocese, but became a bishop of

2:42.8

two diocese when they merged together, he would often be traveling in all sorts of weather.

2:48.9

And because he was so prayerful and God answered his prayers that when a storm broke out,

2:55.3

legend has it, that an eagle would fly over him to protect him from rain.

3:01.3

So he could travel and do God's work in any type of weather.
