My dear young Squire Sprouts, tomorrow is a great feast, the feast of Pentecost. All Easter season, we have read about

the courageous actions of the first disciples and the acts of the apostles. But none of those

actions would have been possible if Jesus had not sent them the advocate or helper like he said he

would before he ascended to heaven.

Pentecost is a day when God sent the Holy Spirit to the disciples, and the first reading

tomorrow describes it like this. Then there appeared to them tongues as a fire, which parted

and came to rest on each of them, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak

as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim. Pentecost always reminds me of the sacrament of

confirmation. Some of you may have already received this great sacrament, and some of you are still

waiting to receive it, but it's one of those sacraments that can be kind of confusing. Why do we

get confirmed in the

Catholic Church? Well, the short answer is that it gives us power to slay dragons. But the

catechism in the Catholic Church actually list five reasons for confirmation. Number one,

it builds our relationship with God the Father that we received at baptism. Number two, it builds

our relationship with Jesus, God, the Son. Number three, it's one relationship with Jesus, God the Son. Number three,

it's one of the sacraments of initiation, building our relationship with the family of God, the church.
