This week on the Catholic Sprouts podcast, we have been talking about materialism,

or our desire to own and possess more stuff, more money.

We talked about why we oftentimes get so disappointed after we get what we have longed for, because the emptiness inside of us can only be filled by God.

We also talked about how some might be called to own nothing, but most of us are called to own possessions.

We need to simply evaluate how much we love these possessions and if we're allowing the possession to make us into a nasty person.

Yesterday, on the feast day of St. Catherine, who received the vision of the miraculous medal, we talked about

how Mary is a great example of how possessions can make you tie down to this earth. But if we can be

like Mary and not be connected to the earth at all, then we will fly to God at the end of our lives.

Today we are going to talk about the antidote to materialism, and that is generosity.

Now, with every great sin or great struggle that we face, there is a virtue that we can choose to embrace instead.

And the virtue that cures materialism is generosity.

There are struggling, poor, suffering, hungry people in this world.

Maybe you don't see them regularly, but they are there.

Just because we have everything we need and we can continue to get more and more doesn't

In fact, as we've talked about many times, God oftentimes leaves his good work up to us to do.

We are called to take care of our brothers and sisters.
