Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Friday, November 30th, 2018. It is Friday, November 30th, 2018. It is also the feast day of St. Andrew.

0:28.4

This week on the Catholic Sprouts podcast, we have been talking about materialism. We talked about how we are oftentimes disappointed after we get that thing we longed for because our longing is to fill an emptiness inside of us, an emptiness that can only be filled by God.

0:49.6

We also talked about how not all of us are called to own nothing, but we oftentimes need to pause

0:57.3

and wonder, do I love this thing more than I love God? And is this thing I own turning me

1:04.5

into a terrible person? We also looked at the example of Mary, who was assumed body and soul into heaven,

1:12.9

and how our material possessions connect us to earth and won't allow us to fly to God at the end of our lives.

1:21.8

Yesterday we talked about a spirit of generosity and how giving what we can to other people is saying to God and saying to the world

1:31.2

that I believe that people are more important than stuff.

1:37.7

Today on the feast day of St. Andrew, we are going to talk about why we oftentimes want so much stuff.

1:48.9

Now, the reason why we want so much stuff, and let me tell you, this is as true for adults

1:55.7

as it is for children, the reason why we want so much stuff is often because we're worried about what

2:03.1

other people think about us. We want to drive a certain car or wear certain clothes or live in a

2:11.4

certain neighborhood in a certain type of house because we want other people to think we're

2:16.7

successful, we're smart, we're wealthy,

2:21.4

whatever it might be. Maybe for you, you want to wear a certain type of clothes or have a certain

2:27.6

toy or a certain pair of shoes because you don't want to look weird. You want people to think that you're cool.

2:37.4

Well, here is a lesson from St. Andrew. You should stop caring about what other people think

2:46.5

and care only about what God thinks, because he is the only one that matters. Let me tell you a little

2:58.6

bit about St. Andrew. St. Andrew was one of the early apostles. He was chosen by Jesus to follow him,

3:07.0

to sit at his feet and learn.

3:09.2

He also abandoned Jesus at the crucifixion.
