Summary

Ever had protestors show up at your house because you bought a building and raised the rent? Or tenants gaming the system for years without paying a dime?

Mark Schuler has. From eviction moratoriums and slumlord smear campaigns in Seattle to buildings torched by ex-cons and tragic on-site deaths—this part of our conversation dives into the grittiest realities of being a landlord and syndicator.

  • A tenant set fire to the building.
  • Protestors picketed Mark’s home.
  • You can’t do criminal background checks in some cities.
  • What actually happens when a tenant dies and nobody notices?

This is where real estate stops being theory and becomes real life. Mark shares the war stories, lessons learned, and how to underwrite for chaos while still creating wealth for his investors.

If you’re investing passively or actively—or thinking about it—you can’t afford to miss this part of the episode.
