Sometimes it seemed like he was talking to himself.

Henry Foote speaking in the House of Representatives in Richmond,

or should I say the Confederate House of Representatives in Richmond during the Civil War?

He was an opponent of the government that sat in Richmond. Jefferson Davis, he felt, wasn't competent,

and he said so on the floor of Congress. The army, he felt, should take the offense more,

and foolish policies of impressment of good taxpayers' properties,

and telling growers to burn their cotton needed to stop.

The war secretary, Foote, said, didn't know what states the various forts were in.

The Navy secretary, Foote said, didn't know what states the various forts were in. The Navy Secretary, Foote said, never created a Navy, and probably couldn't swim.

Music Henry Foote was at times waging a lonely battle in a mostly supportive Confederate Congress.

But he was about to get some help.

Well, indeed, in November 1864, an army is approaching Richmond.

You could say two armies were.

One is clothed in blue, and it's led by General Grant.

The other is clothed in gray, and it consists of merchants and farmers and lawyers and politicians.

Now, both of them want to replace the government in a way.

Both of them don't like Jefferson Davis.

Both of them struggled to get to where they were, mightily.

And both of them were not leaving Richmond without a fight.

But they are two different armies.

One is Grant's armies with uniforms and guns attacking.
