Today we're talking about the Bonus Army,

a group of World War I veterans and their families

that marched on Washington in the summer of 1932

at the absolute bottom, the nadir of the Great Depression.

Tens of thousands descended on the Capitol,

set up a huge camp across the

Anacoster River from Capitol Hill in an effort to receive their promised service bonus early from Congress.

We'll go inside the camp, inside the movement, and this fiery, tragic end of the bonus army, what they

called the bonus expeditionary force. Their movement was ended at the end of a rifle by the U.S. Army and General
