COVID-19, not gone. COVID-19 has iterations, variants. Right now, in the news,

XBB.1.5. And the question of what is to be done, I turned to Dr. Henry Miller, a physician,

and a molecular biologist. The Gwen Swagger Distinguished Fellow at the American

Council on Science and Health, writing about not only the new variant that is in the world,

but also the reason that the variant is right now growing in numbers and frequency week to week.

Henry, a very good even to you. Thank you for this. It's called Aris. However, you tell me that

the reason it is now in the news is not only because there's a new variant that might be evading

some of our defenses, but that our defenses are wearing down. Is that correct? Good evening to you.

Good evening, John. Yes, there is this new variant. It's a sub variant of Omicron, as you said.

And it's variously known as Aris, or it's official name is EG.5. It's a predominance,

it's a penetrance in the population now in the U.S. is about 17 and a half percent,

and it's increasing rapidly. But that may not be an essential part of this story,

because the other variants, such as the XBBs, are continuing to circulate and continuing to mutate

and continuing to infect people. And we need to remember that immunity from earlier infections or

from the vaccines, including the boosters, have now waned substantially. After five or six months,

the immunity to new infection is pretty low, and most of us have not had a booster during the past
