Well, Commander Tools, I'm Mark Horsman, and this is a re-release of a special cast called

Fighting the Down Turn Silence. There's been an awful lot of discussion about how to

manage during COVID-19 and what lockdown and what remote

managing means and we think we've covered the waterfront there. But we also have to

pay attention to what's going on in people's economic lives.

There is a coming recession.

Perhaps it's going to be worse than that.

It's certainly going to be long, depending upon who you listen to.

And that means there are worries, economic worries,

in the heads of our teams.

And it's natural during these times that people communicate less. Fear, uncertainty in doubt tend to cause people to undercommunicate at work.

This cast was originally released in July of 2009, 11 years ago, during the downturn of course following the 2008- 2009 Great Recession.

Hope you get a lot out of it. Here we go. You know during economic downturns which we're in right bosses get upset because our

directs just they just don't communicate to us enough you know they they they hunker down they're quiet they're

sullen how are we supposed to manage under conditions like yeah. Yeah all this

fog of war around us externally and then internally we've got more fog of war, right?

Exactly.

Yeah.

The big one for me is that they're afraid to disagree.

That is really, and we're going to do an additional cast on their fear of disagreement.

How you know it's it's a bit like the road to Abilene here everyone's afraid to disagree

and you end up having a bad experience.
