My cousin's fiance criticizes me for calling my aunt and uncle my mom and dad, claiming that even though they adopted me, apparently they're not my real parents, and I have no right to call them that. And I'm honestly so offended that I seriously don't know what to do. Okay, so here's some really important background information. I'm an 18-year-old female, and when I was three years old, my father, unfortunately, passed away in a car crash, leaving my mother alone to take care of me.

depression, as she became an alcoholic and the alcohol addiction open up to basically more addiction,

and that's when my father's family stepped in. With the help of the courts, I was removed from

her custody, and from there I was put into the care of my aunt and uncle, and they eventually adopted me after my mom passed away about a year later. So, I've spent most of my life living with my aunt and uncle, and during middle school, I started to call them mom and dad. It just feels right to me, and no one in my family has any issue with it, or at least they haven't said anything about it. That is until this weekend. And for the sake of the post, I'm going to refer to them as mom and dad for the rest of the story. So this weekend, we went to spend Memorial Day weekend at my grandparents' house on my mom's side, and at their place, they have like a two-acre plot of land. So it's common for my extended family to go there on special occasions and or basically just holidays. Well, this weekend, I got to meet one of my cousin's fiance. It was my first time meeting her and I'm not going to lie, she was a bit obnoxious. And she came off a bit spoiled. Like she seems like the kind of person who would announce a pregnancy at a wedding. On Saturday, me, my mom, my dad, my cousin, the fiance, my aunt and uncle were all sitting at a table outside in the backyard chatting, and it's there that the fiance said to me, it's crazy how much you look like your mom, but you look nothing like your dad. She then said to my dad, you sure she's yours? And the joke flopped hard. And my dad and cousin gave a courtesy chuckle. And my mom spoke up and said, well, she's my brother's

daughter.

He passed away when she was three, and her mom couldn't take care of her, so we've been raising her ever since. The fiance then said, oh, but you called them mom and dad a few minutes ago. And I replied by saying, well, yeah. And everyone at that point was quiet for a second, and the fiance broke the silence and said, why? When she said this,

I was a little confused and a bit annoyed, so I said to her, well, because I can. It's what I want to call them. The fiance then said to me, but that's weird. They're not your mom and dad. I don't like it. Well, as you can imagine, I was fed up with her by now, so I said to her, oh, okay, I'll make sure to write that down to my notes.

The table was then silent, and it was super awkward after that.

Now, I thought that the whole situation was over, but the next morning when I walked into the kitchen, my mom, my grandparents, and the fiancee were in there. And I walked up to my mom and I hugged her saying, good morning, mom. After I fiance looked at us and said I already told you I don't like it when you call them that they're

your aunt and uncle not your parents my grandpa then said hey it's none of your business what the

girl calls them mind your own business now after that she didn't really talk to me much but she

would give me weird looks whenever we were in the same room.

But regardless, I hopefully won't see her again for a while, and I kind of feel bad for my cousin who has to deal with her, because her attitude is incredibly inappropriate. Okay, seriously, this fiance was like actively pissing me off as I was reading this. You literally were adopted by your aunt and uncle. So guess what?

They are legally your parents.

Just because they were your aunt and uncle first doesn't mean that they're not now your parents after your parents have passed away and they adopted you. Like that lady's an idiot for not only speaking up like that, especially with a family that she does not know, but also to be like, um, you can't say that because I don't like it when you say that. And it's like, dude, I don't know what to tell you. That is so stupid. So yeah, this fiance of your cousin is a complete moron and I would not pay them any mind, because those are absolutely your parents.
