Luigi Mangione was back in court Monday when a judge ruled some of the evidence found in his

backpack at the time of his arrest cannot be used at his state trial. The 28-year-old is charged

with gunning down United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson in December of 2024, a protest state prosecutors against the insurance

industry too often denying patients' claims. Mangione's lawyers argued that when he was arrested

sitting at a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania five days later, police violated his rights

by seizing and going through his backpack and taking his possessions without a search warrant, only obtaining one more than seven hours later. This week, Judge Gregory Caro said the magazine, cell phone, passport, wallet, and computer ship found cannot be introduced, but the gun allegedly used in the shooting and a notebook will be allowed in as evidence. The judge of Mangione's federal case has already said all of the evidence found can be used

in that trial, which will come after the state proceedings that are set for September.
