Welcome to the Feminid Podcast. This is Nancy Wilson. Thanks for joining me today. I'd like to talk to you today about counsel and counseling. First, what exactly is counsel? The first synonym that comes to mind is advice or guidance. When you're presented with a choice

0:23.3

or you've gotten yourself into a complicated situation, you need some coaching, something more than a

0:29.5

mere suggestion or tip. Sometimes counsel includes cautions, warnings, or even remonstrance,

0:37.3

and admonition. The main thing we want to look

0:40.2

for when we are seeking counsel is biblical wisdom. Some people go from one person to another

0:46.3

seeking counsel until they finally get someone who tells them what they want to hear. I sometimes ask

0:53.1

before I give counsel, depending on the situation,

0:55.9

if the person has received counsel about this situation already, and from whom. That can be very

1:02.6

helpful. And it is a protection for me as well. There is not necessarily a problem with going to more

1:09.4

1:18.3

counselors, there is safety, Proverbs 1114. When you have no one you trust to give you sound counsel,

1:25.4

you are in a hard place. Think of a ruler who has no one to

1:29.5

advise them. That would be difficult. But with a godly group or multitude of godly counselors,

1:35.9

their safety and wisdom. So the point is to keep the balance. No roaming from counselor to counselor

1:42.6

until you get the answer you want. At the same time,

1:45.9

in a difficult situation, a group of godly counselors is a tremendous asset. Proverbs 279 says

1:53.7

ointment and perfume delight the heart, and the sweetness of a man's friend gives delight by

2:00.3

hearty counsel.

2:02.0

I love that description of hearty counsel.

2:06.2

We think robust counsel that brings delight.

2:10.2

This should be our goal in all our counsel.
