I don't know if I have ever addressed this particular thing, but it occurred to me.

It might make a good podcast topic.

So we'll see.

And that is what I call preventative prayer.

Preventative prayer is praying that you will respond in a spiritual way before the temptation comes to respond in a fleshly manner. Preventative prayer requires wisdom and humility. And even with those things, we can't anticipate

all our own temptations. So this is simply an encouragement regarding those temptations we can

anticipate. For example, you put your little ones down for a nap, hoping to have some time to get a few

things done while they're sleeping.

Preventative prayer is when you pray that if any of them pops out of bed or get up too early,

that you will be spiritual about it and not be disappointed or grumpy and not react in the flesh.

You know what I mean. Don't be possessive with your time

with a quiet house. Thank the Lord and act. Don't react. If you have to get up at a crazy hour to

catch a flight, pray that you will be sweet and not grumpy when your husband wakes you up at 3.30 a.m.

This is preventative prayer. You know your flesh, you know your temptations, so you know where

you should be praying preventatively. You're heading into a situation that you know has been a

stumbling block in the past, you don't want

to stumble this time, so you pray preventatively. There are many, many applications for this.

You've had a long day and you're thinking how nice it will be when your husband gets home

so you can hand it all off to him. That is a selfish impulse, not a spiritual one. But you have time now to pray before it happens,
