We dive straight back into the situation in the Middle East, into the bombardment now of the Gaza Strip in retaliation.

Respond. Well, there it is. There's the topic, really. Is it retaliation or response?

And it will now be civilian casualties and civilian deaths

that climb at an exponential rate. Just pause for a moment to reflect upon the scale of the

invasion that the massacre undertaken by Hamas. Israeli authorities have reported 1,500 bodies of Hamas fighters found in Israel.

So that is an absolute bare minimum of the terrorists who managed to get into one of the most

protected territories in the history of humanity. I think it's fair to say.

I don't understand the technicalities of somehow almost glitching the iron dome so that missiles

got through as they hadn't before. But the barbarism, of course, was most evident in the

individual encounters of which more details have emerged since we last spoke yesterday.

And they are, I don't know why we use the word medieval when we're describing barbarism.

It's not as if it went out of fashion for six or seven hundred years, is it?

There were terrible things going on all over the world long after the medieval ages.

But we do, don't we? We use it as a sort of

synonym for a kind of level of violence that we think is unfamiliar or alien. It isn't. It isn't.

But whether it's the children or the young women being carted off on motorbikes and paraded

through territory, I don't know. But another thing we don't know, and I hope that some people

with, perhaps we took some calls yesterday from Israel itself, I hope some more people listening

in Israel will help me out with one side of this conversation today.

Because I'm seeing a lot of criticism, Harets, which is a big Israeli newspaper, very, very critical of Netanyahu, of Benjamin Netanyahu.
