well, we've made it through anyway, didn't we? Today, I want to shine a light on something

that doesn't get talked about enough, something that's often misunderstood, misdiagnosed,

sometimes just plain ignored. It's called conversion disorder. Or more recently,

it's been known as part of functional neurological symptom disorder or FND. A bit of a mouth of all I know,

but it's one of those conditions that perfectly shows how powerful our minds are and how closely they work with our bodies.

Because this is where emotional stress, things like trauma, anxiety, even long-term pressure,

turns into physical symptoms.

And I don't mean the usual butterflies in your tummy when you're nervous. I mean

actual loss of movement, seizures, speech difficulties, even temporary blindness in some cases.

And yet when someone goes for scans and tests, nothing shows up. All the tests come back normal. Now imagine how scary that

must feel. Your body stops working properly. You know it's not in your control, but everyone

around you is saying that you're fine, that there's nothing wrong, except there is. Because your brain is doing something very

clever. It's trying to protect you. See, when emotional pain is too much to process, maybe because

of trauma from childhood, maybe a recent trauma, the body sometimes steps in. It tries to carry the burden for you.

And it doesn't mean that that person is weak or dramatic or faking it, quite the opposite.

It means their body is reacting in the only way it knows how. And it should go without saying,

but it's not conscious. People aren't making this up. Most of the time they're is confused by it as everybody else's. In fact, it often comes as a relief when someone finally gives it a name. When someone says, ah, yes, I know what this is, because up until then, it might feel like they're going mad.

Conversion disorder is real and it's treatable.

Maybe not with any magic pills or quick fixes, but with the right support, psychotherapy, physiotherapy,
