I'm John.atchel with my colleague Gregory Copley, Defense and Foreign Affairs.

The report, Gregory, is that ISIS is extremely active and aggressive in West Africa.

That would include the three states that have recently departed ECOWAS and departed democracy,

then Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso. And that also includes, I'm told, northern Nigeria. The reason

I mention it, not just because it was a surprise to me that ISIS was doing so well, Al-Qaeda

has dominated this story for some time,

but also that Nigeria is so unable to defend itself. In fact, at the same time, it was a story

of the president of Nigeria, vacationing in Paris for heaven's sakes, and then there were

stories about the usual corruption and suspicion

in Nigeria. And there was a story about ambushing ISIS fighters by the Nigerian military.

I've lost track of this. Is Tunubu concerned about ISIS? Do they regard it as just a problem

of another part of Nigeria? What is the

thinking there about this threat? Well, it's always been the case or the assumption in Nigeria

that presidents who come from the south or south-south are never as concerned as they should be

about the socioeconomic problems
