Hello, everybody. Welcome back to the Primal Potential podcast. I am Elizabeth Benton.

0:06.3

This is our consistency 365 series. It is a mini series short episodes in between our

0:12.4

regular full-length Monday and Saturday episodes that are all about pursuing consistency and

0:18.6

implementing strategies no matter what is going on in your life, on your busy days, on

0:24.5

your stressful days, on your emotional days, on your celebratory days, all of the time.

0:29.8

Today I wanted to tell you another conversation that I had with a client recently, and she's

0:33.6

asking my opinion on something. She said, I'm one of those people that I keep looking for

0:39.1

opportunities to do things that I think will motivate me more. I'm sure we've all thought

0:45.2

that if we buy the new shoes or the new leggings that will be more motivated to work out, and

0:50.1

one of the examples she gave and her message to me was, I thought if I replace the back splash

0:55.3

in my kitchen, and my kitchen is more attractive or more my taste, then I'll be more motivated to cook,

1:03.0

and if I'm more motivated to cook, then that'll support my goals. And I'll probably even save money.

1:09.3

And while maybe we haven't had the thought about replacing the back splash for that reason,

1:13.4

I think a lot of people think, well, if I get this new blender or I get these new pots and pans,

1:17.4

it'll probably incentivize me to cook a little bit more. And my feedback to her was

1:23.8

the skill that I want you to build is figuring out how to cook and prepare food, whether you're

1:31.6

motivated to or not, because the new shoes or the new sports bras or the new pots and pans,

1:36.9

the back splash, it'll probably motivate you for a couple of weeks. But then you're just implementing

1:46.4

a strategy to motivate yourself and taking action based on motivation, not taking action based

1:52.2

on consistency. And consistency is acting regardless of how you feel, whether you're motivated or not,

1:59.2

you're doing it because it's what you do. The other thing to consider is that those things that we

2:06.6

might do, the new sneakers, because then we'll be motivated to walk, they fizzle really fast.
