I am Elizabeth Benton and this is our consistency 365 series.

We had a really great conversation as part of our coaching call in the consistency course

the other night and somebody was sharing that they are working towards a goal of exercising

more regularly, working out more regularly and initially they had a goal of 30 minutes

and they found that they weren't executing and so they reduced the goal to 20 minutes

and they reduced the goal to 10 minutes, really trying to find where can I get traction.

And this client shared with me that she felt like a five minute workout was just lame

and too small to make a difference.

And it brought up a really powerful conversation that so often we evaluate a potential habit

to start like a five minute workout.

We evaluate it from the standpoint of is this going to give me results?

Am I going to get fitter because of a five minute workout?

Am I going to lose weight because of a five minute workout?

And my sense is that's probably not the best way to evaluate it because that will

lead to dismissing things as this client did as too small to make a difference.

When I was over 350 pounds and I used to take a pint of ice cream that I would eat on

the regular and take a big spoonful out before I started, put it down the garbage disposal

and eat the rest.

It was not because I thought that having 95% of the pint instead of 100% of the pint

was going to lead to tremendous weight loss or get me all of these results.
