Especially at this time of year, there are so many things competing for our attention

and even when we have strong goals,

it's very easy to feel pulled away from them and then weeks and months and years go by and

we haven't made meaningful progress and I want to help you counter that.

One of the primary reasons that I would turn to binge eating or to retail therapy or even not binging just overeating over indulging in a moment was to escape a feeling I didn't want to experience.

Sometimes that was boredom, sometimes sadness,

sometimes anger, sometimes fear, sometimes worry. And the behavior, the eating, the spending, the zoning out with TV or social media,

it did not eliminate the problem.

It just offered a temporary distraction to it, but here's the insidious thing about those temporary

distractions. While they are temporarily distracting you from one problem, they're creating or worsening another.

So if I would turn to food to temporarily distract from loneliness, I might feel less of the loneliness in that moment because I'm distracted, but in that decision

to distract, I'm creating a problem for my confidence, I'm creating a problem for my health, I'm creating a problem for my confidence I'm creating a problem for my health

I'm creating a problem for my energy I'm creating a problem for my belief in myself

because of this behavior and when I recognize that it was an attempt to distract, it wasn't because Twizzlers were amazing, or I just couldn't get enough tortilla chips, I just didn't feel comfortable being uncomfortable.
