Summary

There are studies that show humans are feeling lonelier and more isolated than ever before. And while it may feel like it's a great thing to "respect each other's Headspace" and privacy, someone may be waiting for you to reach out to connect. If you're feeling lonely, or suspect someone you know may be, send them a message or give them a call today. It may make you both feel a little more connected, and a little less lonely. Hi, Sam here and welcome to Radio Headspace and to Monday morning. I'm so happy to be back

1:06.1

on Radio Headspace and to get to spend the next few weeks here with you. So if you've

1:27.4

So when I arrived my expectations were high and at first Sweden seemed to be meeting all

1:32.4

of my expectations. The subways are quiet, everything is clean, buses and trains arrive

1:40.0

on time and people are pleasant. But as I stayed longer and eventually lived there for

1:47.8

more than a year, certain aspects of Sweden began to wear on me. The harsh winters were

1:53.5

hard but there was something much harder and it was this feeling of gut wrenching loneliness

1:58.8

that I felt on a daily basis as I moved about the city. An obvious factor is what many

2:04.8

Swedes have described to me as an intense need to preserve privacy. Other Swedes have told

2:10.0

me that they're all just pretty shy. When I asked my husband why no strangers talk or

2:15.9

even look at each other in public, he literally said that Swedes respect each other's headspace.

2:22.0

I know, that was crazy to hear. And though I couldn't force myself to interpret this social

2:28.3

isolation in any other way, I learned to accept it and make the best of it. I remember participating
