This is part 4 of a 7-part meditation series titled Holding Space for Silent Struggles, episodes 3057-3063.

THIS WEEK'S CHALLENGE: Bend Don't Break Quest

This week, select an emotional breaking point you might be enduring and apply a meditation technique to manage it. For example, do daily breathing, yoga, walk in nature, etc when you feel you're at an emotional breaking point.

A DIFFERENT MEDITATION TECHNIQUE EVERY DAY FOCUSED ON A WEEKLY THEME:

You are guided with a different meditation technique every day that is customized for the week's theme. Weave the techniques into the most stressful times of your day to manage difficult emotions. The meditation techniques help to calm the "monkey mind," when your thoughts continuously interrupt your meditation.

Welcome to episode 3,059 of the Daily Meditation Podcast. I'm Mary Meckley and I

0:07.6

welcome you to day four of this series we're exploring this week.

0:13.6

We are already midweek as you explore the theme of holding space for yourself as you experience silent struggles. And some of you may be experiencing what is termed

0:29.6

as disenfranchised grief, and this refers to the experience of grieving a loss that's not

0:40.0

often openly acknowledged or socially supported. And this is the kind of grief

0:47.4

that can occur when something your suffering is

0:55.0

pain and this can lead to your pain and suffering not being recognized or

1:00.3

validated by society by the people who are even most closest to you, and this can

1:08.1

lead to feelings of isolation or shame and you may not experience closure on your grief.

1:18.0

So if you look up and do a little research on disenfranchised grief, you'll find that this often includes

1:25.8

grieving the loss of a pet, and this may be dismissed by others as insignificant compared to the loss of a human loved one.

1:38.0

Or you might be grieving the loss of a relationship that was not officially recognized, such as a same-sex

1:47.8

partnership that was not legally recognized at the time of death. You could be grieving the loss of a loved

1:56.2

one to suicide which can be stigmatized and misunderstood by others. You may even be grieving the loss of a celebrity or public figure

2:08.3

and you didn't personally know this person but their work or influence at a profound impact on your life.

2:18.0

So you feel like with their passing is putting closure on a part of your life that you really enjoyed.

2:26.5

You may also find yourself grieving or having incredible anxiety or worry about someone you know who is involved with substance abuse or any other

2:40.5

kind of addiction. And it's difficult to talk about this with others because there is often a lot of stigma

2:48.4

attached to these kinds of addictions. So whatever you may be grieving this week, I encourage

2:56.3

you to take part in this week's challenge, which is a Bend Don't Break challenge so you are encouraged to lean into the

3:08.3

suffering and sorrow you're experiencing instead of feeling like you need to push it aside or not acknowledge it just

3:16.6

because others around you may not validate your feelings.
