And now on to the new year.

If you're like me and millions of other women at the first of a new year,

you're thinking of what to purge, right? What to organize, how to improve all the things that come with

turning over a new leaf. So I thought a good topic today would be how to start out the new year

by clearing away any and all resentment you've been

carrying out with the old resentments. Why not begin the year free of the weight of old grievances?

So what is resentment? It's a simple action of taking offense and then tucking the record of the offense into your heart and mind.

If someone wrongs you, whether it's a stranger, friend, or family member, the immediate fleshly

impulse is to be hurt or indignant or angry. They have offended you. They gave offense and you took offense, like a present. But resentment is never

about how you wronged your sister. It's all about how she wronged you. When she hands you in a fence,

you do not have to take it. And if you do take it, you can and should drop it immediately. If you choose to take it,

and we do have a choice, resentment will review the game film, adding and embellishing, and attributing

motives for the offense. Resentment isn't like that box of unused Christmas ornaments in the

closet that is just taking up space.

Resentment grows and expands, taking up more and more space in your heart and mind,

that should be used for much healthier things. Remember, love does not keep a record of wrongs.

So if love doesn't do that, what is it in us that keeps a record? It must be something nasty

like envy or impatience or competition or pride. We live in a fallen world and people will wrong us.
