Whatever day it is for you, I'm recording this on January 8, 2025 on a snowy day in Idaho.

So wherever you are, thanks for jumping in.

Doug and I are always going through a couple of books together in the morning, and he just

recently added another one for the new year. And today we read this, but of living for his

soul, caring for his soul, thinking of his soul, providing for his soul,

making his soul's salvation the principle and chief thing in his daily life. Of all this,

a man has no cause to be ashamed at all. Okay, the problem with this is so it sounds super ultra righteous and holy.

It's also very selfish, selfish. I mean, if you're living and caring and thinking and

providing and making this the principal thing. It's too much.

It reminds me of a story my mother-in-law used to tell of a missionary lady who would have her fellow

missionaries watch her kids for way too long while she was shut up in her room having her quiet

time, being spiritual.

And Bessie said she would come out of her room finally with her face all aglow.

Meanwhile, all the others were getting really peeved.

Well, if we want to be truly satisfied and walking with the Lord and have our souls satisfied,

we're going to be thinking of others and not just of ourselves.

To be consumed with our own souls and meditating on ourselves and our condition

and our own needs and our own sorrows

is to be mighty self-centered and self-focused and selfish. So that's what I just wanted

to talk about a little bit today. Philippians 2.3, of course, comes to mind. Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit,

but in lowliness of mind, let each esteem others better than himself. Now, the person who is
