I'm going to move right on to the new year, and I'm going to suggest that if you haven't started

a commonplace book yet, January 2025 is a great time to do this. What is a commonplace book? It's just a

notebook where you keep quotations, super simple. I have a commonplace book

that my daughter Rachel gave me Christmas 1995, which I know because she wrote the inscription on the

first page. So I suppose if you are needing some last minute gift ideas is this one. Many of your

kids who are getting a classical Christian education

probably have a commonplace book already, and honestly, depending on how much you use it, you will need

several over the course of your life. What kind of things do you write down? Quotations from your

reading or from your listening. The first one I have in my commonplace book

is from C.S. Lewis. Here it is. The happiest moments are those when we forget our precious

selves and have everything else. God, our fellow humans, animals, the garden, and the sky instead.

And the last quotation so far is Psalm 103. 17.

But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him and righteousness

to children's children. I go through times of simply underlining in my favorite books,

and that's great, that how much better if I would go ahead and just copy it down in my commonplace book?

So I have a sampling for you today.
