Sometimes senators are powerful because they've just got a vibe. Other times, they're powerful

because they control the committees, the leadership positions that shape legislation.

But every once in a while, you get someone who's both, someone who can dictate policy and do it

in a way that makes people feel good about themselves. Someone like Iowa Senator Chuck Crassley.

There's not a single Republican or Democrat that I dislike the United States Senate.

I don't think any of them dislike me.

And if they do, I don't want to know who they are.

Grassley, who is currently the longest serving member of the U.S. Senate, sits atop the Judiciary Committee.

That means he's responsible for figuring out President Donald Trump's immigration agenda

and dealing with getting Pampani and Kash Patel confirmed.

Grassley is also a one-man institution at the Senate Finance Committee, where he was the chairman,

as recently as 2020.

That's no small thing during reconciliation when tax policies are what all you all are thinking about.

I spoke with Grassley on Wednesday.

We talked about reconciliation, what he thinks about Trump's brash talk about the FBI and

the DOJ, both of which he'll have to oversee.
