On Thursday in France, President Joe Biden headlined a ceremony memorializing the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

It was the capstone of a season of politics dominated by foreign policy.

It began a week ago on Friday when congressional leaders

including Chuck Schumer invited Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu to

deliver a joint address to Congress, which incensed much of the Democratic Party.

Then on Sunday, when Mexico elected a new president, Claudia Shinebaum, an event quickly

overshadowed by Joe Biden's executive order on Tuesday, giving himself the power to shut down the southern border, again dividing the president's own party.

Finally, on Thursday, the president appeared in France to mark the historic anniversary of the American

landing at Normandy.

So it's a good week to check in with one of Biden's closest foreign policy advisors,

someone who also happens to be his neighbor, Delaware

Senator Chris Coons. Coons occupies the seat that Biden vacated when he became

Vice President, he co-chairs Biden's re-election campaign

and is widely believed to be on the short list

for a cabinet post in a second Biden administration.

Coons also frequently travels abroad and just returned from official visits to Taiwan, the Philippines, and Singapore.

I caught up with him on Thursday afternoon as he was racing between events in Wilmington,

which also happens to be where the Hunter-Biden

trial is happening.

And Coons was out on cable TV this week, complaining about that Wall Street Journal article

on Biden's mental acuity.

So there was a lot to talk about.
