South Carolina Congressman Jim Clyburn is often considered the single most important person in helping Joe Biden win the Democratic nomination in 2020.

After Biden lost the first three primaries, Clyburn endorsed his old friend in his home state.

Biden won South Carolina and rolled to victory on Super Tuesday and beyond.

Biden has repaid Clyburn in a number of ways, including by making South Carolina the first presidential

primary.

In 2024, Clyburn is now one of Biden's six campaign co-chairs. They raise money, act as surrogates, and offer

the candidate advice. And they have a few problems to solve. Biden's weakness with black and Latino

voters, the rebellion on the left over Israel's war in

Gaza, the continued Democratic carping about the Biden campaign's messaging, Biden's dismal

approval ratings.

I connected with Clyburn on Thursday afternoon

to get a glimpse into how he and his fellow co-chairs

are approaching all of this.
