Summary
In this episode of Dylan and Wes Interview, Cyrus Janssen breaks down why China is rapidly becoming an AI superpower. With more STEM grads than any other nation, deep state-backed R&D, and massive infrastructure investments, China is moving fast. It’s not just a tech race—it’s a global economic shift. Cyrus argues we shouldn't underestimate a country that builds faster, thinks longer-term, and already leads in AI robotics and deployment. China isn’t trying to destroy the U.S., but it’s definitely aiming to lead. Time to pay attention before it’s too late. The AI race is now fully multipolar.

| 0:00.0 | All of us know that AI is going to change the future of the world. There's a battle in AI going on between the United States and China. You never want to bet against China because you have a country that has the largest amount of STEM graduates, right? Science, technology, engineering, mathematics. Most Americans, I think they look at China almost like a North Korea. It's one guy at the top. It's not. It's completely different. China is run by engineers and the United States is run by lawyers. |
| 0:22.3 | The rise of China is certainly something that has challenged that U.S. |
| 0:25.6 | hegemony because now countries have an option. |
| 0:28.1 | Hello everyone. |
| 0:29.7 | My name is Cyrus Jansen. |
| 0:31.0 | I'm a geopolitical analyst focusing on China and this ever-changing world that we now live in. |
| 0:36.6 | Maybe we could start by getting our heads around. |
| 0:39.3 | What are the kind of equivalent companies that are in China that we can kind of use in American |
| 0:44.9 | terms for reference? |
| 0:45.9 | It seems like they have sort of the equivalent of Facebook and Google. |
| 0:49.0 | And then is there kind of an open AI? |
| 0:51.0 | Maybe you could just give us a broad landscape. |
| 0:53.3 | Yeah, absolutely. |
| 1:27.7 | So Dylan West, thanks so much for having me on the podcast. You know, I think all of us know that AI is going to change the future of the world. And I think right now what's interesting is there's a battle in AI going on between the United States and China, right? The biggest two biggest superpowers in the world, they're definitely the two biggest influencers in the AI space as well. So it's kind of an exciting time because I think when you talk to people in the AI space, I think there's a lot of, you know, very bullish sentiment from people because, you know, at the end of the day, you know, it's about trying to create systems and, you know, and work towards better technology that's going to help our world evolve and let us all live a better life. |
| 1:33.4 | So as far as the companies, I mean, we have the big companies that are in China now, they're all using AI. |
| 1:38.9 | So, I mean, you kind of look at, for example, Alibaba, you're looking at 10 cents. And then Huawei would be really the main one that's kind of a big player here that would be kind of similar to your to your Nvidia because they're developing the chips and the technology that's going to be driving that. So, you know, for example, Nvidia has obviously been in the headlines the last couple of months. Jensen Huang, NVIDIA CEO, very bullish on China. He's been going to China for over 30 years. Just gave a fantastic interview, actually, where he really talked a lot about, you know, the truth about China. And, you know, that interview actually was on a pretty big YouTube channel. Didn't get a lot of views, you know, something around like, you know, maybe 200,000 views. But I think there's a lot of people that really should see that interview. And I did take some clips out, and I did share that on my social media. And, you know, you just said some really good stuff about how, you know, how fast China is growing and how the key thing with China that we have to understand is that when the government gets behind something, that's where the industry is going to move. And so there's not a government in the world that can move as fast and efficiently as China. And it makes sense, right? It's a one-party state. So if the party says, hey, we're moving towards AI, like this is going to be a big priority for us. Well, guess what? Any company that's going to be working in that respective field, they're going to get additional funding. They're going to have easier, you know, a green light for access to technologies, to permitting to everything like that there's less red tape for them to go through if it's in the |
| 2:54.5 | interest of the good you know, a green light for access to technologies, to permitting, to everything like that. |
| 2:51.8 | There's less red tape for them to go through if it's in the interest of the government and the |
| 2:55.5 | nation. And so that's what we're really seeing right now is a big movement from China and a big |
| 3:00.1 | movement from these tech companies. Yeah. And do you feel like that is a methodology that's |
| 3:07.0 | going to beat America in the long run? I mean, do you think they'll end up having the most cutting edge models? Well, I think, you know, there's a couple interesting case studies that we can look at. You know, I think, you know, earlier this year, all of us, you know, in this AI space, you know, we're looking at deep seek, you know, which I think was a really fundamental shift in the market because all of a sudden, you know, I remember, you know, listening to Sam Altman, you know, talking about Open AI. There's a very famous clip where there was an Indian, you know, venture capitalists who said, hey, Sam, you know, what if we wanted to start something from scratch? What if we wanted to try to build something that could |
| 3:41.2 | compete against an open AI? And Sam Altman, you know, very famously just kind of looked at him and laughed. And it's like, don't even try. Like, impossible. Like, you can't even, you can't even begin to get to our level because we're so far advanced, where this, were that. And it was a very arrogant, you know, statement from Sam Allman because, you know, he thinks it's like, oh, I've got all the technology. |
