Welcome to the Commune podcast. My name is Jeff Krasno. Today on the show, I welcome the biologist and renowned author, Dr. Bruce Lipton.

0:19.4

Early in Bruce's career as a biologist, he began studying the behavior of cells, and he

0:26.7

discovered that cells with the exact same DNA acted very differently based upon their

0:35.1

biological medium.

0:36.9

In other words, cellular behavior is influenced by its

0:41.5

culture. In 2005, Bruce released the book that would forever change the way we think about genetics.

0:50.3

The biology of belief upended our traditional understanding of genetic determinism and introduced

0:57.8

the concept of epigenetics, how genes behave in relation to their environment.

1:05.4

Further, he demonstrated how consciousness are feelings, thoughts, and perceptions impacted our biology.

1:13.6

At the end of May, Dr. Bruce came to Commune Topanga for an intimate lecture that we filmed

1:20.6

for an upcoming Commune course. And the day before the event, Bruce and I caught up in the library.

1:28.7

So in our conversation, we explore the concept of genetic determinism, epigenetics,

1:34.8

the pharmaceutical industry, how our biological imperative to survive has been hijacked by media

1:42.6

and the attention economy, and how we can take agency over our own health.

1:49.9

So needless to say, this was a fascinating conversation.

1:54.8

for 30 days. So without further delay, I present to you the one and only Dr. Bruce Lipton.

2:49.4

So before I met you and I was introduced to your work, I was, I guess I would say mired or anchored in genetic determinism.
