0:00.0 | My name is Will DeFrees, and this is a Sunday Scaries Podcast, your cure for the Sunday Blues. |
0:14.8 | Today we're going to learn how to take the perfect group photo, discuss some celebrity hangover cures, and do a deep dive on Demi Moore's bathroom. |
0:22.0 | It's a tale as old as time. You could be out at a restaurant, maybe you could be sightseeing on vacation, or just spending some time with friends over a long weekend. |
0:33.0 | You're enjoying yourself, you're maybe having a drink, and then it happens. Someone walks up to you and chile asks, hey, can you take a photo for us? |
0:41.0 | I get asked this question a lot, and it's for numerous reasons. The first is that I'm a decent photographer. |
0:47.0 | If somebody knows me, they usually go to me first in the situation to ask me to take the photo, especially if it's my wife or my wife's family. |
0:55.0 | I'm also married to, like I said, a wife with a huge family, and so I'm often the de facto guy. |
1:01.0 | Now that I'm not the new man in the crew, it kind of is easier for me to avoid the responsibilities since I'm in most of the photos, but if it's like a girl's pick or something, it's usually always me. |
1:11.0 | And then the third reason is that I'm just too nice to say now. |
1:14.0 | Well, throughout all my years of trying to take group photos for people and trying not to get it wrong, so I don't have to redo it. |
1:20.0 | I've come up with six steps to make sure that you can have success too. |
1:25.0 | The first is to take control of the situation. You kind of have to go by a script. You go over there, and you stand behind her, Sarah, you're short, get in the front, Tara, you're like six foot tall, stand in the back. |
1:36.0 | Alright, half of you in the shadows, so it takes four steps to the right. Okay, one step back. Alright, perfect. |
1:42.0 | It goes a little something like that. The longer it takes, the more they get, the more they take advantage of you. And this is I've learned a lot. |
1:49.0 | You have to really take control of the situation, direct it, and make sure that they feel like they're in good hands with you. |
1:55.0 | The second step is to hold the phone high. I know this seems a little stupid, but it's absolutely necessary. |
2:00.0 | There are some issues with holding a phone low when you're taking the photo. And the first one is the most important one. Double Chins. |
2:07.0 | If you're like me, and you could probably stand to lose a few pounds, you have a double chin in every photo. |
2:13.0 | Even if other people don't notice, you notice because you always notice your own double chin. |
2:18.0 | The other reason that it's not great to hold the phone low is that it just completely blocks the background and the reason that they're taking the photo in the first place. |
2:24.0 | Well, maybe not the reason, but A reason they're taking the photo in the first place. |
2:28.0 | And the final reason is that everyone looks better, look down on, versus from above. |
