September 2006 in Ponticello, Idaho.

A 16-year-old high school student, Cassie Joe Stoddart, was house-sitting for her aunt and her uncle, Allison and Frank Contreras.

The Contreras family was out of town and needed Cassie to come take care of their zoo for the weekend, three cats and two dogs.

Okay, to be fair, it wasn't technically a zoo, but just imagining being responsible for that many animals would put me in phase one of a panic attack.

But Cassie was going to do it.

Cassie Joe was very well liked.

She had a bright future. She stayed out of trouble.

She gave no one a reason to do her any harm. She was that kind of person, truly. She was planning
