If so, your first introduction to her may have been in the form of a nursery rhyme.

Lizzie Borden took an axe and gave her mother 40 wax,

and when she saw what she had done, she gave her father 41.

The town of Fall River, Massachusetts was the union of industry and affluence

during America's gilded age.

So when the wealthy Andrew Borden and his wife, Abby, were violently murdered,

suspicion soon fell on Andrew's younger daughter, Lizzie.

The murder case turned into the trial of the century at the time

and pit the wealthy and working classes against one another.

And while the eerie rhyme of Lizzie would become widely popular,

this legend gets many things wrong, including one key detail.

Lizzie Borden was acquitted for this gruesome crime,

and the chilling case remains unsolved to this day.
