Good morning and welcome to the Independent Republic of Mike Graham right here on Talk Radio. And so the die is cast, ladies and gentlemen, the the fix is in and then we are all stuck with

the tax rise that no one really wanted that won't do any good and most certainly won't do

what it is supposed to do that is to fix the NHS and of course the social care system because

the 1.25% hike in national insurance sailed through parliament last life with very little

resistance from some Tory backfanchers there was meant to be a, but only five of them can bring themselves to actually vote against it.

37 of them managed to abstain.

The money is meant to shore up the NHS and sort out the care home funding fiasco,

but it's pretty unlikely to do either.

Even the Institute for Fiscal Studies has come out today and said that the NHS can never live

within its means. It will always need more money and it will never really work very efficiently.

Other government departments are likely to be cut by several billion at the same time.

So where does that leave us all? This morning, I'll be asking John Rental, the Chief

Political Commentator at the Independent, if Boris Johnson has done enough to quell the rebellion

that was threatened within the ranks,

37 of those Tories, of course, abstaining apparently, had permission. Some of them did anyway.

We shall see about that. Not least, because Sir Keir Starmes' opposition yesterday was pretty

lived. He voted against it, as did the Labour Party. But they haven't really got another plan,

have they? And when you get down to it, Boris Johnson's reasoning is, well, at least we've got a plan.
