Welcome Conrad Black, Distinguished Biographer, writing at the National Post about the crisis in the Middle East.

The array of forces by the Israelis and the Americans prepared for whatever comes next were told by the telegraph London reporting

that the Defence Minister of Israel, Yov Galad, has told troops around the Gaza border that they will soon be seeing the Gaza from the inside.

We do know that the Prime Minister of Britain, Rishi Sunak, has visited Benjamin Netanyahu and Jerusalem onto Riyadh for what is said to be crisis talks with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Muhammad bin Salman.

These are actions in the theater. I'm most concerned for Conrad's observations of how Canada's responding to this crisis.

The Ukraine war continues very dangerous. Vladimir Putin has been making remarks, taunting remarks, toward President Biden and others these last days as he traveled to Kurdistan and then onto China for conference with his no limits partner, Xi Jinping.

But Canada is like the United States faced with a crisis that we had not imagined would come back, the deliberate massacre of Jews and an organization, Hamas, that is devoted to wiping Israel out.

That seems to be the only way to say it. Conrad, a very good evening to you. First, Canada's reaction.

I've watched the headlines as best I could and you are in Toronto and Ontario. How has Canada conducted itself in these troubled days about the Middle East? Good evening to you.

I think the Canadian reaction has been commendable. I think it's been practically unanimous, almost unanimous in horror at the atrocities that were committed against Israel.

And in general agreement with the policy you mentioned, the British leader has taken and the United States has both parties.

Israel certainly has a right to defend itself and has a right to take reprisals for these outrageous.

Well, there is a community in this country that is Muslim generally speaking sympathetic to the Palestinians.

And they have demonstrated they haven't been particularly offensive or obstructive. There has been no violence.

There have been counter-vailing pro-Israeli demonstrations but nothing undignified and nothing unreasonable and the official position of all parties in the federal parliament is quite squarely on the side of Israel.

Of course there are but usual expressions of concern about where this might lead but nobody is standing up and telling Israel we don't have right to respond to this.

I go into what we can imagine is the immediate challenge which is the Israeli necessity to go into Gaza to fight with the Hamas killers.
