Chapter 11. Raina

The first thing Raina noticed was a pounding headache.

The second thing was that her whole body ached, like someone had taken a hammer to her

joints.

Her cheeks burned, the fever hot on her skin, her stomach roiled. People murmured around her, a man and a woman, but neither

were Keyanth, so Raina didn't care. Be dangerous. I hope she's okay.

I mean, better there.

Raina let herself drift, singing into the numbness.

She hoped Keyanth would come back.

Her mind niggled that it was concerning Keanth wasn't here,

but that too faded with time.

She awoke again later, this time to darkness. The room was quiet and still, and Raina blinked

slowly, staring at the ceiling. Her mind was a bit clearer, her face warm, but not burning. She felt like

she'd run every flight of stairs in the Grand Palace. A steady pressure rested on her stomach.

Raina lifted her hand to feel it, and an unbidden smile touched her lips as her fingers entangled with short, wild hair.

There was Keanth. The hours of misery tumbled from her mind as she gently rubbed her girlfriend's scalp.

She was starting to drift again when Kianth stirred under the touch.

Rain?

The mage breathed, pushing off Raina's belly.
