Chapter 9. Raina

The next morning, Keanth and Raina reconvened with their respective stamps of approval,

which was good, because as Raina predicted, the glassworker Tarley recommended, was a queendom citizen,

and wouldn't touch their windows until she knew that Lord Wyland had approved.

After that, work began in earnest.

The carpenter made good on his promise to keep them busy, and they spent days hauling lumber,

propping the rafters, essentially rebuilding the barn from

the inside out. Any rotted wood was replaced, and any decent wood was refinished. The bedroom walls were

secured, and they built a decently sized washroom with two doors, one from the bedroom, one from the main area.

They did some work on the rafters, then went outside and addressed the roof.

The carpenter brought an apprentice skilled in slate shingles, and they spent two long days

ensuring everything was waterproof for the coming rains.

Everything was going well, so it irritated Raina that her shoulder wound hadn't healed yet.

She'd half hoped that a visit to the clinic wouldn't be necessary, not with so much work to be done.

But they'd been in Tawny almost a week, and the wound went from

oozing pus to puckering red. Manual labor wasn't helping. Her stitches had been pulled so many

times she'd given up. When Keyanth found her one night dabbing the wound with a blood-stained towel,

she was not pleased.

The inn's room was already too warm, but it heated several degrees as the mage bristled in irritation.
