Summary

The Prime Minister will be flying stateside tonight to visit Joe Biden. Top of the agenda will be AI regulation (they may also talk about Ben Wallace's bid to become the next Secretary General of Nato). It's a tricky issue and famously fast moving, so can the two leaders crack it? Cindy Yu talks to Katy Balls and James Heale.

Hello and welcome to Coffee House Shots. The Spectators' daily politics podcast. I'm Cindy U

0:34.1

and I'm joined by James Hill and Katie Bals. So later this evening, the Prime Minister

0:38.4

Rishi Sunak will be heading over Stateside to meet Joe Biden. Katie, what are they going to be

0:42.8

talking about? So this will be the fifth bilateral Rishi Sunak has held with Joe Biden since he

0:49.2

entered number 10, the first bilateral in Washington. And I think there's a trip where there's lots

defense secretary, should be secretary general of NATO. So the US backing would be very helpful with

1:07.9

and then also AI, artificial intelligence. And I think Rishi Sunak's been doing a lot on the

1:14.6

world stage of late at a time and I think there's concern back home domestically on the five

1:19.4

priorities. But what is quite interesting about artificial intelligence is, I think there's

1:25.2

definitely been a bit of a change in the mood around it in the past few weeks when government

1:29.2

after Rishi Sunak held various meetings with leaders in the field. And now UK is looking to

1:36.9

not just take an approach from regulating AI to the point that I think the white paper from two

1:41.5

months ago is pretty out date already. But also trying to be a world leader, which we often hear

1:47.8

from the UK, there would be a world leader in AI. And I think it's interesting because I think some

1:52.9

of these companies thought the UK would be a place where perhaps they could go and be very nimble

1:58.6

with the rules on AI. And I think that's still very possible. But what Rishi Sunak keeps talking about
