I welcome Bill Weller, the Hoover Institution, the host of politics and policy,

as well as the goodfellas, commenting on the Republican Party's long reign of losses in California.

The number is astonishing.

I believe I say this correctly.

Since 2002 in statewide office contests, the Republicans are 1 and 47.

Bill, a very good evening to you.

This is discouraging.

It has to do with some decisions made over these last years

about Donald Trump, but this goes back to 2002 when Mr. Trump was not on the

national stage. Is there one explanation for the

Republican Party not only losing all these contests but shrinking as it did it?

Good evening to you, Bill. Good evening, John. No No there's no one explanation but there are at least

two that we should note. One is one of adaptation. The Republican Party in

California, John, I just don't think is sufficiently kept up with the times in terms of changing

Morris in California in terms of changing views on topics.

We're still, I'm too wet into the 80, 70s, 60s, and 50s even, so that's problem number one.

Problem number two, which I think we're discussed on this show before, John, is what I call the

avatar problem, which is, you're a California Republican, what national figure to attach yourself to.
