But this time, not the debate that's going to take place in a few days time in

Georgia, but debate history in California. Bill, a very good evening to you, it

never occurred to me that California hadn't been integrated into the debate, presidential

debates over the years.

You report that the most notable thing that happened in presidential debates in California

was Michael Dukakis.

What happened, Bill?

Well, this was a debate in Los Angeles, John in 1988,

CNN, which is sponsoring next Thursday's debate

sponsoring this debate as well.

And the key moment in that debate

genre is when Bernard Shaw asked Michael Dacaucus a hypothetical question.

Dacaucus famously opposed a death penalty and what Bernard Shaw asked him was well well, let me give you a what if?

What if your wife Katie Dukakis is raped and murdered would you then be in favor of the death penalty?

And the caucus went into just kind of bland bureaucratic mode and said,
