Summary
"We should always be confident that this chanting is not a vibration of this material world. It is imported from the spiritual world. It is completely spiritual."
- Narottama dasa Thakura
"Only God's name is real."
-Larry Brilliant
"It's all illusion except the name of the Lord."
-The Ramayana
"Rams' form left this world, Krishna's form left this world, but the Name stays. By reciting His Name, everything is achieved. Everything is achieved."
-Maharajji (Maharajji constantly chanted Ram all of his waking hours)
"Kalau nasty eva nasty eva na-sty eva gatir anyatha", or, "in this age, there is no other alternative, no other alternative, no other alternative than to chant the holy name of the Lord (Hare Krishna)." - Caitanya Mahaprabhu via Srila Prabhupada
"National duties, social duties, and humanitarian duties are obligatory only to those who are bereft of spiritual duties. As soon as man takes his birth on earth, he has all these obligations to the great sages that left behind vast treasure houses of knowledge to guide him through life, to forefathers, family members, the government, and so forth and so on. But as soon as one engages himself in the one single obligatory duty- the duty of spiritual perfection- then he automatically liquidates all other obligations without having to make separate efforts."
-Stephen Knapp

| 0:29.5 | Good morning to you. |
| 0:31.5 | So the question I keep getting is how to choose a mantra or what book or books should I read to understand mantra better. |
| 0:41.0 | And I thought I'd answer that question for everyone here and give you a little bit of backstory on how I chose my mantra or how it chose me. |
| 0:50.5 | And I'll do my best to keep this episode short because you know I can talk about mantras all day. |
| 0:56.0 | So books, Ramdass's, Polishing the Mirror was one of the first books I read in 2013 before like the other 600. |
| 1:07.0 | And it was one of the last books I read like where I feel like where my journey kind of ended with the incessant reading. |
| 1:14.5 | So it's like the first and the last and I reread it on my way on my first trip to Maui last year in July. I reread it on the plane. |
| 1:25.5 | And if you like what I talk about every morning, get that book, get the audible. |
| 1:32.0 | If you want to listen to it by the hard copy, just to have it so you can hold it close to your heart after you read a page that really resonates. |
| 1:40.5 | The other book I recommend if you are new to this would be a mantra handbook, a practical guy to choosing your mantra and calming your mind. |
| 1:50.5 | And this is from Ekna, Eswan, Eswan. |

| 2:01.0 | So if you recognize the name, I'm sorry if I mispronounced it, that's why he did that. He translated the Upanishads. He's done a lot of work in the spiritual space. |
| 2:11.0 | And I just came across this book in the last year and it's good. I didn't read it cover to cover, but he does a really good job at breaking down the meaning of mantra and sharing. |
| 2:22.0 | Monchress from different traditions, everything from Christianity to Hinduism to Buddhism to even mantras from the Sikh tradition and the Jewish tradition. |
| 2:32.0 | So you can really dive in and browse. You can window shop until you find exactly what feels good to you. And that's a thing. |
| 2:40.0 | Like I have chanted many different mantras over the year and let me clarify when I say chant generally speaking, I am not doing like Tina Turner. This is one of Yal's questions. That's the only experience you've had with seeing a chant or mantra being chanted was on what's love got to do with it. |
| 2:59.0 | So I am not most of the time 99% of the time I am not chanting out loud the only time I chant out loud and it's not very loud is when my mind is so busy that it's hard to focus on the chanting. |
| 3:12.0 | And so the internal chanting of the mantra is being drowned out by this whatever craziness is going on in my mind. |
| 3:19.0 | So I start saying it out loud to calm the mind so I can go back in and start saying it inside and just focusing on hearing it inside and filling it inside. |
